is the closers job automatically gordons now or does he have to compete with fassero for it?

gordon will not automatically get the closer's role. it will be his, but not exclusively.  it's nice that fassero is a lefty and gordon is a righty, so that will play into a lot of decisions.  right now gordon is not ready to go back to back games. they will alternate with eachother until gordon is strong and ready and then fassero will eventually fall down into the setup man if gordon proves himself capable.
