[ About Medical Questions]

Most people on these forums are not vets.
** Any answers or diagnosis we make are educated guesses based on either research or experience.
** Rely ONLY on a vet to give you an ACCURATE diagnosis and treatment for potentially serious problems.
** If it looks as if your dog’s sick or injured, Do Not hesitate! Take your dog to the vet.
** Do Not wait for someone to tell you to take your dog the veterinarian if it has a problem.
I have seen an increasing amount of people who have done this.
Some cases were fatal because people did not take their animals to the vet until told to.

Question
i have a question about my dogs behavior. our female dog is 2 years old and is well behaved.  she rarely ever goes to the bathroom inside the house and if she does she mostly does it on her pee-pee pad. if she does go on the carpet(which is once in a blue moon) she immediately cowers and knows that she has done a bad thing. just recently though she has been very dissobedient in that regard.  right in front of me yesterday she squatted and peed on my couch! then later that night when she was in bed she peed on my bed where i sleep! She has never ever shown that kind of behavior and i am wondering why she is doing this all of the sudden and what can i do to prevent it? is she sick? do i punish her? please any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Josh,

Is there anyway you can move to pad to an area way from the carpet? Or use a baby gate to keep her in a safe area, away from the carpet.
I don't know your schedule with letting her out. I am sure you probably let her out before you leave. If you don't that is something that will help her hold it longer.

I wish I knew more to tell you.
It is a difficult thing to handle with a timid little dog.
Punishment is not something that can be used on a small dog anyway, let alone on one that is already fearful.

Maybe there is something that is upsetting her like a new schedule, a new pet, or the holidays even could have her anxious, upset and confused. A little practice catching her, while you are at home,  and swooping her up and putting her outside.

You might also check the site for previous questions about potty issues to see if there is anything in my answers that might help you out.

This is all I can think of.
I hope it helps.
