I can answer questions about habits, attitudes, and behaviors of Chihuahuas.
I don`t know why the Chihuahua breed has such a wide range of sizes.

[ About Medical Questions]
Most people on these forums are not vets.
** Any answers or diagnosis we make are
educated guesses based on either research or experience.
** Rely ONLY on a vet to give you an ACCURATE diagnosis and treatment for potentially serious problems.
** If it looks as if your dog’s sick or injured, Do Not hesitate! Take your dog to the vet.
** Do Not wait for someone to tell you to take your dog the veterinarian if it has a problem.
I have seen an increasing amount of people who have done this.
Some cases were fatal because people did not take their animals to the vet until told to.
Expert: Crystalstar Date: 1/2/2007 Subject: Is my puppy sick?
Question Last night I found one of my six week old chihuahua puppies curled up not moving in her bed. When I picked her up she was lifeless. According to my mother she was fine earlier that day. The mother has started to ween the puppies and I was thinking that she maybe was not eating. So I put some puppy replacement milk in a syringe and feed it to her. At first didn't want it so I had to pry her mouth open. I mixed a little bit of syrup with the milk because I thought maybe her blood sugar was low, or maybe she was dehydrated. About an hour after I gave her the milk she seemed better. I sat her down and she still seemed a bit wobbly. This morning when I checked on her she still seemed a bit weak. I don't think that she has parvo because the other 2 puppies seem fine. Is there any other illness she could have, or does it sound like low blood sugar?
Answer Ashlea,
It does sound like low blood sugar.
She is a little young to start being low on blood sugar already. She must not be getting the nutrition she needs from mother, and her food. Are you feeding the puppies some gruel? [[Puppy food with water mixed up to make the food into mush]] You should use puppy food, not adult food to feed them, in case you aren't using puppy food.
Milk won't be enough to help her survive. If she is too weak to eat gruel right now, get some puppy canned food, and let her lick on it. Once she smells it she will probably be wiggling to get to it.
You might want to
just go ahead an wean her from mama now. She is going to end alittle one on one care.
You really should visit the vet too. Just incase it is more severe then what it seems.
