Question
I am 8 weeks pregnant. I have a previous C-section scar from previous birth in January 2006. However, I sometimes encounter sharp pain on the end of the previous c-section scar. Could there be a problem?.

Answer
Mafusi,

The pain you feel could be from the stretching of your skin and muscles to accommodate your growing pregnancy.  However, it is also possible that the pain is due to adhesions, which can occur after a c-section when the internal organs/tissues attach to the inside layer of the scar, causing pain and other potential problems.

In most cases, the pain is just a normal occurrence as the pregnancy progresses, but the only way to rule out adhesions is to visit your doctor and have abdominopelvic sonography.
