Childbirth/menstrual cycle after birth

Question
Hello:  I had a baby on August 13th- he was 10 weeks early.  I pumped til the middle of November.  Still haven't gotten my period.  Wondering how long roughly it could take.  He is doing great by the way!  Thank you for your time and input!  Have a wonderful holiday!

Answer
Tanya,

Congratulations and I'm glad to hear he's doing well.  It can take several months after pumping or breastfeeding for your cycle to return.  Prolactin levels (a hormone produce while breastfeeding) can prevent ovulation when they remain high and it can take a few months for them to drop enough for your cycle to return.

So, it could be a few months (3 or so) before everything returns to normal.

Best,
Catherine
