Question
Hi, maybe you can help me.. Here is my situation;I had a casual sexual incounter on nov 2 2007 w a #1, then started having sex with #2(my husband now) from nov 9th on, started my period on nov 17, two days after my period was over, my husband started ejaculating inside me, and on dec 21st we found out I was pregnant. I had an transvaginal ultrasound done on jan 14, and it dated 8 weeks 3 days, crl was 1.87cm. I am about 19 weeks now. My questions are: what are the chances that #1 could be the father of my baby, what is the margin of error in transvaginal ultrasounds done at 8 weeks, and would the fetus be larger than 1.87 cm if I conceived w #1 guy. My doctor said it can't be #1s, also another expert said I conceived late nov, early dec, but I just need another opinion to be at peace, thank you for your time, it is appreciated!

Answer
Denise,

There is a 0% chance that #1 is the father.  You started a new period after your encounter, which means you did not conceive that cycle.  Based on the dates you gave, your probable conception date was around 12-1-07.

The standard measure of error for a transvaginal ultrasound between 8-10 weeks gestation is typically +/- 1 day.  It can vary by the equipment used, but is usually only at most +/- 3 days.

And yes, the CRL of your baby would be much greater if you had conceived with #1.  You'd be about a month further along if that were the case.

Best,
Catherine
