Question
On my last ultrasound, which was monday the 5th, the baby weighed 10oz which from what i've read is a little big for 18 weeks.  The ultrasound predicted a due date of June 2, just based on the size of the baby, but he still said June 6th.  He said the baby wasn't quite developed enough to be due on June 2nd and I expressed my concearn of my due date being off.  He still didn't change it though.  So, do babies grow differently at this stage in pregnancy?  Why is he so big?

Answer
Casey,

Yes, babies grow at different rates after the first trimester due to genetics and maternal nutrition as well as other environmental factors.

Otherwise, they'd all be born the same size.  Some are bigger than average, some are smaller.  It doesn't mean there's a problem.  He could also slow down his growth rate later or have just had a growth spurt.

Typically, a due date isn't changed at this point unless it's off by 10 days or more.

Best,
Catherine
