Question
QUESTION: I underwent C-section 9 weeks ago. After the operation I bled for about 3 weeks straight in moderate flow. Then it stopped. But after 6 weeks im bleeding again even if I'm breastfeeding. Is this normal? What could be the best rationale for this? Cause I'm kind of worried please help.

ANSWER: Kathleen,

It could be your first period, even if you're nursing.  Some women cease to have a menustrual cycle while breastfeeding and others don't.  Both instances are normal.  If you are experiencing pain, severe cramping, or clots, then you need to see your care provider to rule out infection or other complications from the c-section.

QUESTION: Thanks for enlightening me. But I am feeling discomforts right now, mild cramping, and also a mild pain in my breast. Are these signs also normal? I used to have dysmenorrhea everytime I'm having period before I got pregnant. The bleed just started after my husband and I had a contact. I wish this is not infection or whatsoever. I need your help.

Answer
Kathleen,

If you are concerned, then you need to see your doctor.

All of the symptoms you're describing can be normal, but can also indicate a potential problem - it depends upon the severity, the heaviness and duration of the flow, etc.

The only way to be certain that everything is as it should be is to be examined, check your healing, etc, which has to be done with an actual visit to the doctor.
