Childbirth/false pregnancy?

Question
About two years ago I got my tubes tied.  Before that I had two healthy deliveries, no problems, no worries.  For the past year I have been having hormonal problems and stopped getting my period.  I lost some weight, starting eating a very healthy diet and am taking a few herbs that a supposed to clear up problems like mine.  Four months ago my periods came back and I was thrilled because my body was finally working normally again.  Now, though, I SWEAR I feel a baby moving.  It is very localized between my navel and public bone and it feels like tiny thuds and flutters.  This has been going on for about a week now.  I thought it was gas and have been watching what I eat and trying to "expell" gas whenever I feel the flutters and thuds.  It used to happen only after I eat but last night I felt it in bed and again this morning it is happening more often and a little stronger.  I took two preg tests but neg.  Am I going crazy??????

Answer
Hi,

I don't think you are going crazy - I'm sure that you are feeling something!

If you were pregnant enough to feel fetal movement, a pregnancy test should be showing a positive result.  I am guessing the movement you are feeling is related to your digestive tract - those "flutters" can feel very similar to fetal movement.

If the movement is still continuing, I would strongly suggest that you visit your gynocologist and let them know what is going on. An ultrasound will tell you for sure if there is a baby in there.

Since 2004, I have taught childbirth education classes focused on helping couples gain confidence, make decisions for their birth, and give them tools for helping them get the birth they want. Since 2004, I have also attended births in local hospitals as a birth doula (as of 8/10, I have attended 120 births) so I am able to see firsthand what is working in helping couples deal with labor. I am also a mom of five children, and have various birth experiences myself, including unmedicated birth and a cesarean.
