Childbirth/chances for pregnancy

Question
hi,
I am sorry for the confusion. The dates given in the previous mails are just for reference. Actually, I had sex with my husband in Feb 2008. Got periods in April 2008. And when I consulted the doctor in July 2008, she told that i am 20 weeks pregnant. I had a c-section and deliveried a baby boy in Dec 2008. Right now, he is 6 months old and I am still breast feeding him. I had sex with my husband in the mid of May 2009. So, can I expect an pregnancy now?

Regards
Madhavi Ancha

Answer
ok, thanks for clearing that up!

Yes, you can get pregnant any time you have sex.  If you are exclusively breastfeeding and have not gotten your period yet, your chance of pregnancy is lower but it is still possible.  You will ovulate once before your first period, and you don't know when that will be.

If you do not want another pregnancy right away, I would suggest using birth control.

You can take a pregnancy test to see if you are pregnant now.  If you only had sex the one time, in mid-May, and haven't gotten your period since your son was born, it is not very likely that you are now pregnant, but it is certainly possible.

Since 2004, I have also attended births in local hospitals as a birth doula (as of 8/10, I have attended 120 births) so I am able to see firsthand what is working in helping couples deal with labor.
