Question
I'm pregnant with my first baby and single.  I had sex with one guy on the 10th of oct and another guy on the 20th of oct.. I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks and it said my conception would have been from the 20-23rd of oct with a due date of july 16th. My doctor told me that the second guy would be the daddy but I am still very uncertain and concerned and I worry constantly... I feel like a horrible parent already for making such a huge mistake and I just want to know if you think that this is right, that the second guy is the father.. I know waiting for a paternity test is the only sure way.. But I really need some comfort.

Thank you for your time!

Anna

Answer
Hi Anna,

Take a deep breath.

1st trimester ultrasounds are very accurate, usually within 3 days.  According to the information you gave, you conceived around October 23, and October 10th is just too far away from that date. A 1st trimester ultrasound is not going to be off by 13 days.

For your peace of mind, you can schedule another ultrasound around 10 weeks and see if that confirms the July 16 date.  If it does, there is virtually no chance that the first guy is the father.

You are not a horrible parent. You cannot change the past - all you can do is look to the future, and make your decisions from this point on. Try not to dwell on your mistakes of the past - and the good news is, your ultrasound and dates are very clear that the second man in the father; it isn't borderline at all.  And you can move on from here and make decisions and choices now that you can feel good about in the future.

Sincerely,
