Question
hi i am trying to get pregnant and my husbands is taking naproxen and codeine phosphate for back pian can this effect the sperm and stop me getting pregnant thanks kareen

Answer
So sorry for the delay; it's been a busy couple of weeks for me.

I can't find any studies on those drugs that show decreased sperm count as a side effect.

However, I would suggest that you consult the doctor who prescribed him the drugs to get more information, and to get a sperm count done if you are concerned.  There may be other things going on besides the medication that may be affecting his sperm count and if you are trying to get pregnant, you want to be aware of those things.  But I don't think that the medication he is taking is doing that; I can find no studies or anecdotal evidence that point to those medications decreasing sperm count.

Since 2004, I have also attended births in local hospitals as a birth doula (as of 8/10, I have attended 120 births) so I am able to see firsthand what is working in helping couples deal with labor.
