Question
I had a csection with my last pregency..the doctor say he cut my uterus and recommend I dont have anymore children and to tie my tubes...is this normal..

Answer
Hello Theresa,

By definition, a c-section is cutting your uterus, so it isn't clear from what you've reported why your doctor was making those recommendations.

No, it's not typical, but not unheard of, for a doctor to recommend tubal ligation and no future children after a c-section. It can happen, depending upon the circumstances of the prior cesarean, including whether it was a vertical or horizontal incision, whether other complications were present, etc.

In your case, I would either ask your doctor for a detailed explanation of why he recommends you have no more children and get your tubes tied - and/or also request a copy of your medical records so you can read exactly what was performed, why, and any complications noted so that you can make an informed decision on your future fertility options and family size.
