Chimney & Fireplaces/superior kr-43

Question
I recently bought a house with superior kr-43 fireplace. I could not find the pilot light or the control unit to this fireplace. What I found in the fireplace was just the gas hose and a pan with sand. Please help me with this 1994 unit. Thanks you

The "Superior," #KR-43, is a factory built fireplace, listed to UL 127. This means that the fireplace is listed to burn wood. This doesn't omit the installation of a vented gas log set, and that sounds like what you have the remnants of in your firebox. You must obtain a copy of the manufacture installation instructions to confirm that this listed product can have a vented gas decorative appliance installed before proceeding.
