Chimney & Fireplaces/Gas Fireplace Pilot

Question
Hello,
I recently moved into a condo with my girlfriend which has
a gas fireplace. When we moved in, the pilot light was on
in the fireplace. One day my girlfriend was home alone and
didn't know about the pilot light, so she shut off the gas
valve in the furnace room.
I've been trying to re-light the fireplace (following the
instructions - after turning the gas valve back on) and I
can't get the pilot light on.
My thoughts are maybe the fireplace igniter isn't sparking.
Any thoughts?
