Question
Is there a max size fire place in relation to the height of the chimney?

Answer
Hello Rick, when sizing for a fireplace you are looking at the flue size (air channel inside the chimney) I would say check with your local building department, they will be able to give you the max size you are looking for.
keep in mind the bigger the fireplace the more "makeup air it will need to draft (10 gallons of air going up a chimney per minute 10 gallons of air coming from inside the house, coming in from drafty windows, pulling air down another chimney, exhaust vent.....)
hope this helped
