Chimney & Fireplaces/Wood burning stove

Question
I currently have a gas fireplace in my house that has a chimney that goes through two stories and then through the roof.  Is it possible to use this chimney with a wood burning stove if I buy the approved double layered pipe that goes from the stove to the outside?  I would basically be using the existing chimney as an outlet for new pipes to get outside.

Answer
Hello Elaine, yes you should be able to but I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have. You would need to remove the gas logs and piping then the sweep could tell you if they do these types of installs and you do not need double wall pipe in side of a chimney a Stainless Steel liner would work and it should be insulated.
keep me posted
