Question
Hi,James
My weatherization guy told me that I should convert my fireplace (which also burns wood) into a wood burning stove,he told me that it is more energy efficient and will put more heat into the room. I'm confused don't they both do the same thing. How would I convert it?

Answer
Hello Rachel, yes a wood stove or insert will produce a lot of heat for your home (fireplace's are mostly decorative) I would suggest you take a trip to your local wood stove store and take a look and speak to them. There are dozens of units that would work and they will be able to help you. I do suggest that the unit is insulated and lined all the way tot he top of the chimney and that it is checked by a Certified Sweep www.csia.org at least ever year and maybe every 1-2 cord's of wood burned.
good luck and keep me posted
