Chimney & Fireplaces/existing flue in basement

Question
We have a brick and tile flue that was built the same time as the house. We have a fireplace on main floor and a Ashley wood stove in the basement. We had both flue's re-lined with stainless steel liners. We want to replace the Ashley in the basement. It has an 8'' flue pipe into the back of the stove. Most stoves now have the vent on top of stove.Does the stovepipe need to angle up from stove to the flue like a hot water heater for it to draw right?
                        Thanks

Answer
Hello Lynn, I would have a local wood stove store or Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have. most pipes must have 1/4" of rise per foot.
hope this helps
