Chimney & Fireplaces/heatalator conversion to wood insert

Question
I have a Heatform heatalator installed in my fireplace with tubes running on top of the metal firebox to circulate the air.  I would like to convert this to a wood insert.  In order to do this to get a 6" liner down the chimney, I would need to cut a metal tube and the back of the heatalator behind the damper.  Is this a safe thing to do if I don't plan on using the heatalator again?

Answer
Hello Richard, once you cut you can never go back. you may sell that house some day but I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have before you cut.
hope this helped
