Chimney & Fireplaces/woodstove

Question
We have a two flue chimney one is being used by a fireplace while the other was once used for a furnace. We direct vented the furnace to the outside leaving an open flue.  My idea was to install a wood stove by tapping into the flue on the second floor. I had someone video survey both flues and they look good.  What is your opinion? The woodstove I'm considering is a 1979 Vermont casting defiant model I'm purchasing for $700(also does that seem high$)  Last question the floor the woodstove will reside on is hardwood.  Do I need a hearth?
Thanks,
Chris

Answer
Hello Chris, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have, and if you do not have the installation manual for that stove you might want to check with your local building department as you will need "clearance to combustibles" in all directions including the floor.
as far as the price of the stove I am not sure, many thing would be a factor, size, age, condition, workings...etc.
