Chimney & Fireplaces/Direct Vent fire place

Question
I have a direct vent gas fire place. The flue is about 12" and has a chimney top. I have never used the fire place because of price of gas heating bills. I was wanting to know since it is direct vent with a flat bun looking burner on it. Can I place wood in the fire place since it is a direct vent with chimney. I was told by one neihbor years ago that you can do both? Is that true.

Thanks
David~

Answer
Hello David, DO NOT BURN WOOD IN THAT FIREPLACE a true "Direct vent" is not designed for burning wood and you will cause a fire, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have.
