Chimney & Fireplaces/vent free LP gas logs in existing Marco FP

Question
I have a Marco fireplace model DWF41-D that we have used for burning wood.  The unit was installed by the previous owner in the early 1990s.  We want to change to LP gas and install gas logs.  Can I install an unvented gas log in this fireplace. (I know a vented gas log would work but I would like to use the FP as a supplementary heating system.

Answer
Hello Bill, all units must be rated to work with each other, the pre-fab fireplace must be rated to use with gas logs vented or non vented and the logs must be rated for use with that fireplace. I am not a big fan of "Ventless" any thing.was the original install done correctly? has this system ever been inspected by a certified sweep? I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have.
keep me posted
