Chimney & Fireplaces/Convert Wood Burning to Gas Logs

Question
I have a Superior wood burning prefab fireplace Model # CF3860. It was already in my home when I bought it. The home is 23 yrs old. I want to convert to vent free gas logs but the local LPG supplier thinks that the fireplace is only rated for wood fuel unless I can prove otherwise, and will not supply gas until I can prove to them that it is safe for use with gas logs. I cannot find a manual for the fireplace.

Answer
Hello Chris, you will have to go back to the Manufacturer, local wood stove store, your condo board to find this manual. Also I am not a big fan of "Vent free" anything. do not install the gas unless that unit is rated for it. I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have.
