Question
I am getting ready to install a ventless gas fireplace in an existing fireplace opening. Question is how do we seal up the hole in the top of the fireplace where the chimney once was? We have put down a fireproof board and then put mortar around it. Do we need anything else to keep the top of the fireplace safe? Thanks

Answer
Hello Brenda, I am not sure what you have for a fireplace so sealing it up I am not sure about or even if I would do it. I am not a big fan of "Ventless" any thing, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have.
