QUESTION: We bought a home with Marco fireplace DWF36F-2. Existing external air vent is located directly behind the unit in upper left corner but our remolding requires relocation to right side. We cannot find any drawings or installation manuals to ascertain this be done. Please help.

ANSWER: Hi Bruce,

That company is out of business and I don't have any manuals for those fireplaces.

If you're just relocating the termination of the outside combustion air, you should be able to simply relocate it and change the length of 4" ducting to the appropriate length.

For best performance, the outside combustion air termination should not be higher than the point it exits the fireplace assembly.

QUESTION: Can the vent relocation be done from inside as we do not want to deface/remove the outside siding?

Answer
Hi Bruce,

Only if you open up the interior wall completely.

Even then, you'll have to move the termination on the chase so you're going to end up disturbing the siding anyway.

Remember, you can't change the location of the penetration on the fireplace, just the location of the termination on the chase.
