Chimney & Fireplaces/wood stove insert problem

Question
Hello Mr. Brooks,
We installed a Vermont Castings large winter warm wood stove insert in Nov. 2007. It has not worked from day one. We live in a small well insulated rancher in Maryland. We had a new liner installed when we installed the stove. Our problem is that the insert does not produce enough heat to increase the temperature in the 13x 20 room by 1 degree. We feel that we are getting the run around from both the manufacturer and the dealer who sold us the defective insert. They come out and look and change some parts but they do no diagnostic testing to see if the unit is working properly.  Is there anyway to measure the BTU output of this unit in our home?  We are just looking for information to help resolve this issue. Thank you

Answer
Jayne,

I would recommend an NFPA-211, level II inspection of your fireplace and insert system. There are many potential issues that may be present and it would be inappropriate of me to suggest any of them ay exist without seeing your system for myself. If you will go to my web site at www.brooks-hearth.com, and using the links at the bottom of the home page, you will find individuals that perform this level of inspection in your area. Thanks for asking and good luck.
