Question
We had a gas insert installed in our wood burning fireplace. The blower only worked properly for about a month, then began starting and stopping by itself. The installer came back and put in a new thermostat thinking that would solve the problem. It still does the same thing, starting and stopping every 3-4 minutes. He said it's safe to use, but it's very annoying. Any ideas? Thanks.

The blower mechanism on your gas insert most likely operates on a thermal switch. The intent is that when the appliance reaches a predetermined operation temperature, the switch will engage and the blower will work until the temperature of the unit falls again below that temperature. This is fairly easy to test for as any qualified service technician can simply bypass this switch and determine if the blower stays on constant or at least through the time frame you are referencing, 3-4 minutes. If the motor runs for say 10 strait minutes, then replace the thermal switch. Hope this helps, Best of luck to you.
