Chimney & Fireplaces/Asbestos in Brick and Mortar

Question
We have a 96 year old home that had a decaying chimney on the roof.  It was a brick and limestone mortar chimney.  We had a roofer remove the chimney at his suggestion.  Pieces of the mortar fell through into the house.  Alot of it was decayed to the consistency of sand.  I recently read an internet article about asbestos in brick and mortar.  I asked the roofer and he said that in 30 years, it had never come up and he has removed countless chimneys.  We cleaned the room well, just in case, but I am curious.  Have you ever heard of this in your experience?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Melanie,

I've never heard of that in my 30 years of experience working with chimneys.
