Question
In order to comply with the Exterior Air Supply codes (R1005.1) which say that any fireplace must have an exterior air supply and that supply may not be located at an elevation higher than the firebox, what is the proper way to bring in exterior combustible air to a basement fireplace that is located below grade?

Rob,

You can use a PVC in 4" inch diameter and run it down a wall on the interior or exterior. You may want to check with your building department to see if they will require this below grade or if you can use a simple wall pass through above grade the space. Good luck.
