Chimney & Fireplaces/Conversion to a wood stove

Question
Dear Mr. Ball,
We are looking to convert our fireplace to a woodstove for better heating this
winter.  My husband says there is a heatolator in there and I am wondering if
this is possible or if it would need a total renovation?  Thank you and I look
forward to your reply.

Answer
Hello Sharon, you should be able to install an insert or wood stove in that fireplace, I recommend lining all the way to the top of the chimney with an insulated SS liner. make sure the wood stove or insert you buy is rated for use in a heatolator.
I would also have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have and make sure the chimney is safe.
hope this helped
