Question
We bought a fireplace insert for our fireplace. We are getting ready to put the vent in...but we want to insulate so that we don't loose any of our heat as well as gain any cold air in the winter (and vise versa in the summer.) We have heard of using a foil backed insulation but what should we be looking for?

Installation of inserts requires first a complete NFPA-211 level II inspection of your existing system. Provided you have had this completed, I would recommend you have your insert installed by a professional. If you are going to install it yourself, Have the outfit that sold you the appliance also sell you the proper venting system. You can check on the Internet but without seeing the installation, I would be not be able to guide you with a product selection. Best of luck with the install.
