Question
THE DAMPER FREEZES CLOSED ESPECIALLY DURING THESE BITTER COLD DAYS, AND WE ARE OFTEN NOT ON SITE. ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO ELIMINATE OR SOMEWHAT REMEDY THIS PROBLEM?

are you getting water down the chimney that could freeze? is the top of the chimney in need of work? Do you have a cap?
I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they might be able to help

| Comment | Thanks. We do not think we are getting water down the chimney. We had substantial work done a few years ago and last year had the field stone exterior totally re-mortared. When it began happening last year, the repair person was not as helpful as we would have liked. We have not been able to unfreeze it this entire season, albeit we have had much record low temperature. | ||
