Chimney & Fireplaces/Fireplace flu

Question
Recently we have had a hard time opening and closing our flu. Last week it was in the closed position and now will not open at all. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Jodi, what you are talking about is called a damper and it might have some thing on top of it, rusted shut or broken. I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to point you in the right direction to fix it.
