Question
what is the minimum flue size available for a wood burning fireplace?
We have interior dimensions of approximately 12 inches to the studs and are being told we can't install a wood burning fireplace flue in that space.

Answer
Libby,

A factory built fireplace, like one you would purchase complete with firebox, chimney and cap, would have specific limitation on clearances. Most that comes to mind have a 12" inch outer pipe that would require a one or two inch clearance on top of that. If masonry construction is is your question, the odds are even worse. I would heed the advice of you local professional. Best of luck to you.
