Chimney & Fireplaces/Replacement Doors

Question
I have a 30 yr old home with a wood burning fireplace.  I want to replace the doors/front plate of the unit as it looks very dated.  There is a sticker inside the insert that lists several Majestic glass door models for replacement, but I'm sure they are no longer valid models.  Am I ok to purchase a Menards/Home Depot type replacement?  I've read a couple warnings about doing this, however my doors are simply mounted to a face plate that bolts into the masonry portion of the fireplace. Is the quality of glass the conern?

Answer
Hello Todd, you can only replace with OEM doors do not use any other type of doors no matter how close they look or fit.
sorry using none OEM can cause a fire.
a 30+ year old system might need to be looked at, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
