Chimney & Fireplaces/blocked lower air intake grille

Question
I have converted my fireplace from gas to what I thought would be wood burning. However, the lower air intake grille is bricked up.The manual (superior fireplace) says NEVER burn wood with the lower air intake grille blocked. I need to remove the bricks to expose the lower air intake. How hard of a task is this? Do i need a masonry guy? Any pointers or suggestions on this task?

Answer
A Masonry person certainly would make things easier, seeing as how they do this sort of thing.

If you want to try it yourself just chisel away slowly and try not to damage any brick around where that intake grill is. That's basically all there is to it.

Hope this helped.
