Chimney & Fireplaces/chimney blocking

Question
Hi,
What material should be used to permanently block off a masonry chimney in an old house in order to use unvented natural gas logs?
Thank you!

Answer
Hello Carolyn, I am not a big fan of "Vent Free" any thing, or "clemently blocking off a chimney" you can install a top mount damper that will close off 00% of the air flow and still allow that chimney to be used in the future for wood (If some one want to after removing the gas logs, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
James
