Chimney & Fireplaces/cracked glass

Question
Hey Steve,

I have a cracked area of tempered glass in a barely noticeable area of my gas fireplace.  I'm about to use a RTV 500 degree clear sealant to protect from fumes escaping, is this a reasonable option?  Its a bayfront glass panel and a new one goes for $1500 US (with the current state of the US dollar/economy, that will probably be equal to $1000 Canadian pretty soon).  thanks for any advice.

Answer
I would suggest changing the piece of glass. I would pull that panel out and talk with a glass company. Show them the glass and get them to cut a new piece with tempered glass and the same thickness. This should be a considerably inexpensive option to do.

Let me know how it goes, Thanks!
