Chimney & Fireplaces/1908 Chimney has no flue

Question
We bought a 1908 Craftsman five years ago. The inspector pointed out that they chimney has no flue (or cap or damper). We have not used the fireplace at all. We would like to restore/maintain the fireplace to an original state to keep with the look of the house (i.e. not to add an insert or hearthstove).

My question is: What are my options to get the chimney in working order? Thanks!!!

Answer
Hello Justin, they make spray on liners, pour in place liners, that they use in historical restorations. Caps are almost infinite styles and they make top mount top dampers.
I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
James
