Question

Lower Fireplace
I just bought a house that has two fireplaces (one main level, one basement). The main level fireplace is in the middle of the living room and is open on two sides (like half of a box cut open). The lower level fireplace is open on three sides. They do not have any enclosures, doors, or anything like that - they are completely open to the air. I want to install some kind of doors or insert or something to make the fires burn more efficiently and to close up the opening so that pets and children don't get into the fireplace. How do I do this? Will it be difficult and expensive to do?

Answer
Hello Lauren, you might be able to find a fireplace store locally that will be able to screen or install glass doors, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help. As far as cost I am not sure
Hope this helps
