Chimney & Fireplaces/Insulation

Question
I have an older fireplace insert that needs the insulation replaced.
There is what looks like fiberglass insulation there now. It is old and letting a small amount of smoke in the room.  The bricks are adobe and create an irregular surface.  What is the preferred replacement material and what do you use to attach it to the insert?
If there is a need I can send pix..

Thanks in Advance...

Answer
Hello Jim, it sounds like your insert it just "slammed" in to the fireplace (just slid in to he fireplace and why you are getting smoke back)(not to any US code NFPA or IRC) it must be piped to the first flue tile, we recommend lining all the way to the top
I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
James
