Question
I read your response to Don's question regarding this subject and would like to know if this also applies to wanting to open up the back side of the fireplace onto a patio?  I realize I would have to put insulated doors on the backside for when we're inside but will our chimney handle this as we would probably be using only one side at a time.  I appreciate your time and wisdom!

Hi Paula,

The same issues apply.

There is no such thing as insulated glass doors for a fireplace.  You'll have a huge heat loss from that room as well as an issue of cooling the room in the summertime.

Don't do it!
