Chimney & Fireplaces - height of pit

Question
our fireplace was in a sunken living room about 6 inches we raised the floor the 6 inches and was wondering if raising the pit 6 inches would help heat and less smoke? thanks Paul

Answer
Hello Paul, raising the floor/grate will help with smoking issue's, but most times it is not the fireplace that cause's the smoking/odor but the house it self.

I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
James
