Question
Hello James, I was told that if I drill small holes from the outside of my chimney into the fireplace keeping and keeping  the wholes close to the floor.that this would allow cold air to come in and the fire would burn better and not pull the hot air out of my house.thank you Larry

Answer
Hello Larry, no this is not a good idea, the holes would not be big enough to make a difference. you should try to regulate the damper. I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
James
