Chimney & Fireplaces/smokey two sided fireplace

Question
We have a two sided wood fireplace with glass doors. When in use, we normally have the doors on the dining room side closed and the doors on the living room side open. After a while, the dining room starts to smell "smokey". It is not bad enough to see in the air, but you can smell it and there are stains around the top and top sides of the fireplace door in the dining room. I pulled the door off and used fiberglass to reseal the gasket, but this did not seem to help.  We would like to keep using the fireplace with wood, but are starting to contemplate gas logs. Please let me know if you need dimensions of anything or pics. Any advice is appreciated.

Answer
Hello Darren, is the chimney clean, is the damper open fully? hard to tell with out seeing it.
I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
James
