Chimney & Fireplaces/5.5" vs 5" liner

Question
Hi,
we are having our furnace replaced and currently we have a 4 year old 5.5" liner... Our contractor says we need a new 5" liner. The liner would also vent our gas water heater (as our existing 5.5" does). Is this really necessary....
thanks

Answer
Hello Dave, I think you should be ok (can't tell for sure with out seeing it or sizing it my self) there is not that much difference in the 5-5.5" liners.
you could have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help with sizing the units into the liner and if you need a new one.
