Chimney & Fireplaces/Converting gas to wood

Question
I am looking to purchase a home and really want a wood burning fireplace. However, most of the houses I've seen (and liked) have gas fireplaces, Can I convert a gas fireplace back to a wood burning one? The fireplaces I am talking about are not the new gas ones. These have been converted to gas from wood. Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer
Hello Tammy, congratulations on your new home, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help. You can also check with your local wood stove store. when they see what you have they can tell you if you can change back , but I believe you should be able to. Part of your home inspection you should hire a Certified Chimney Sweep to do an inspection.
