Chimney & Fireplaces/Gas Fireplace Won't Light

Question
Dear Mr. Ball,
I have a gas fireplace on which I am able to light the pilot light, but as soon as I press a button on the wall that turns the fireplace on, the entire apparatus goes out, including the pilot light. The regular "fire" part will not light even momentarily. Then I'm unable to restart the pilot for several hours.

Answer
Hello Nathan, did you refer to the owners manual? Do you have the owners manual? You might have to get some one in that works on gas logs to trouble shoot this unit, it might be the thermo coupler but it could be some thing much more dangerous.
find a local gas log experts (wood stove store, gas log installers)
if not then it might be time for a new unit.
hope this helps
James
