Chimney & Fireplaces/Pre-fab hearth floor cracked.

Question
We are selling our house (built in 1979) and the buyers had an inspection done. He noted the floor of the fireplace is cracked. It is a Majestic model M36, fireplace # F79343, serial no. 12035643. The crack extends the length of the floor, front to back. Can we repair it or does it have to be replaced? Can we chip out the existing masonry floor and replace with refractory mortar or is it a pre-fab floor that has to be ordered from Majestic? I looked at the Majestic website but couldn't find any reference to our model.

Answer
Hello Patty, the floor (panel) must be removed and replaced I do not know if they make that replacement panel any more but hey do make generic replacement panels. I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
